Introduction:  Bangladesh is a small country’s of south Asia. The Bay of Bengal is on the south of Bangladesh. The big rivers originate from the Himalayas. They come through Nepal and India l. so natural calamities like flood l, cyclone, tornado, etc. Occur here almost every year. Of them flood and cyclone visit our country off and on.

Causes of Floods: Heavy rainfall is main cause of floods. At times it rains days together. As the rivers of our country are shallow, they can't contain the so much rain water. As a result, floods are caused. Rivers are also over-flooded by sudden tidal waves. Floods are also occurring by melting snow of mountains and earth quakes.

Causes of cyclone: A cyclone may occur at anytime and anyplace. It mostly occurs within the tropics. Usually it has its origin on the sea owing to low pressure of atmosphere. Then it begins to blow violently towards the land. It is often accompanied by thunders and heavy showers. Thunders roars and lighting flashes. Nature looks gloomy and terrible.

Flood area

Damages caused: (it) causes severe damage to life and property of the affected area's people. Crops are damaged, trees are wiped out, and houses are washed away. Many men and animals lose their lives. Many people become homeless. They take shelter on high roads and dams. Communication is cut off at different places and normal activities are hampered.

After effects: The after effects of (it) are more serious. Epidemic and famine breakout in the affected areas. People have no food and pure drinking water. So many men die from starvation and of different kind of diseases.

Relief Work: (It) affected areas need immediate relief. Relief should be started during and after the (it). The govt. and public should come forwarded to assist the (flood) affected people.

Floods/ Cyclone in Bangladesh: Floods and cyclone visit our country almost every year and cause untold miseries. The people of Bangladesh can't forget the dreadful floods of 1954, 1958,1984,1985,1988 and 1998 and cyclone of 1969, 1991, 2007 that is recent sidor.

Controlling measures: Measures should be taken to control the floods/ cyclone. Irrigation system should be introduced, the rivers should be dredged. More shelters should be built and system should be developed.

Conclusion: In the meantime the govt. has taken some steps to control the natural disaster like flood and cyclone. The public should also help the govt. to do this. By preventing natural disasters we can't live happily.
